MikroTik PPPoE Billing: Setup Checklist
Prepare RouterOS, RADIUS, plans, test subscribers and accounting before enabling automated PPPoE billing workflows.
Back up and identify the service
Save the router configuration, record the RouterOS version and review the existing PPPoE design. Check management reachability, credentials, service addresses and plan/profile mappings before applying generated configuration.
Connect the control path
Add the router and follow its generated onboarding steps. Check the chosen VPN management transport and RADIUS authentication/accounting path. Do not copy RouterOS instructions onto an Omada access point.
Use a pilot subscriber
Create or import one account with a known plan and expiry. Test login, session accounting, renewal, expiry and reconnection. Confirm traffic limits where applicable and check that the account is billed under the intended service type.
Verify monitoring before scaling
Review router health and accounting freshness. An active billing account is not the same thing as an online PPPoE session. Keep the original backup and document rollback before adding the remaining subscribers.

Troubleshoot the failed stage
| Symptom | Check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Router unreachable | Check power, uplink and configured VPN management transport before reapplying provisioning. | Restore connectivity and rerun the router connection check; keep the configuration backup. |
| PPPoE login rejected | Check account status, username/plan mapping, router RADIUS configuration and authentication evidence. | Correct the identified mismatch and test one subscriber; do not bypass RADIUS policy. |
| Session or usage missing | Check accounting delivery and freshness separately from the router online indicator. | Inspect the accounting path and verify Start/Interim/Stop evidence before expanding the rollout. |
